Meet my characters:
- Edmund Vane – The man to leaves his estate to the people he loves most.
- Constance Vane – Edmund’s niece. As an unmarried woman with no fortune or place to call home, she is happy to receive the gift of Hartwell Hall from her uncle.
- Julian Ashford – Edmund’s godson, a baron laden with duties and debt that this father left him. He looks as Hartwell Hall as another responsibility he could do without and wants to sell it.
- Thomas Ashford – The second son, a young man who loves to meddle in his brother’s life. He’s the comic reprieve in many scenes.
- Eleanor Ashford – The mother of Julian and Thomas, who spends too much money and is concerned about what society has to say about everything.
- The Staff – Briggs, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Potter, Barton, and others, who spend their time plotting behind the scenes.
- Lady Fenwick – The local widowed aristocrat who visits often to find out what’s going on at Hartwell Hall.
